The Senses Project aims to support young people with sensory (visual and hearing) impairment and use arts and creativity as tools for promoting self-expression, as well as reduce stigma, and increase wellbeing. One of the main objectives of the project is to promote accessibility in youth centres and organisations across Europe working with arts and culture for supporting the participation of people with sensory disabilities through a certification “Senses Label”. Another objective of the project is to create real opportunities for people with sensory disabilities through exhibitions of sensory art.
We want to label at least 8 youth centres and organisations working in the art and culture field with the “Sense Label”. In the on-going process of the project we also want at least 12 young people with sensory disabilities to be engaged in sensory art and more connected with the EU community. While trying to achieve these results at least 12 sensory artworks will be created and displayed in 4 EU countries by which we aim to reduce stigma and to raise awareness about sensory disabilities.
Besides reaching out to 8 youth organisations working with art and culture and youth workers & educators; by the project activities we plan to reach at least 12 young people with sensory disabilities in the participating countries. Sensory disability usually refers to the impairment of the senses such as sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell, and/or spatial awareness. It mainly covers conditions of visual impairment, blindness, hearing loss, and deafness.
